The official ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ trailer premiered last night on Jimmy Kimmel and EVERYONE is talking about it today (myself included)!  Although the trailer gives very little insight into the actual plot of the film, I couldn’t be more excited.  So many good things!  The film looks gorgeous.  Visually pretty great.  The cast looks awesome.  I mean Rocket and Groot, am I right?  Karen Gillan looks bad-ass in her brief appearance in the trailer and the witty, “let’s not take ourselves too seriously here” vibe the trailer has, pretty much, confirms my guess that James Gunn was, probably, the perfect director for this movie.

Movie 31 out of 100 for 2013

There isn’t a lot that I didn’t like about ‘Slither’.  I mean, honestly, what’s not to like?  It is a comedic, sci-fi, horror film, written and directed by James Gunn and staring Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks and Michael Rooker.  I have wanted to watch this movie for a long time and thanks to Netflix, I finally did.  If you can’t tell, I’m pretty pleased with this film.

I could try and sum up the film myself but RottenTomatoes.com does a much better job with this one:

A mysterious meteor infected with a deadly alien plague brings chaos to a small hunting town in the feature-length directorial debut of screenwriter James Gunn (Scooby-Doo, Dawn of the Dead). Booted out of bed by his young, trophy-wife Starla (Elizabeth Banks), and in desperate need of some female companionship, wealthy Grant Grant (Michael Rooker) picks up bar local floozy Brenda (Brenda James) and heads into the woods for a hedonistic night of extramarital excitement. When a flaming meteorlights up the sky before crashing to the ground nearby, Grant’s curiosity gets the best of him and he sets out to find the space rock. Subsequently infected with a rampaging space virus, which he passes along to Brenda, Grant transforms into a horrific, cow-munching monster and begins terrorizing the town. As thousands of squirmy space slugs burrow into the brains of the unsuspecting Wheelsy denizens creating an ever-amassing horde of mindless space zombies, panic grips the small town and it’s up to Starla, Sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion), and gung-ho mayor Jack MacReady (Gregg Henry) to put an end to the infection and save the planet. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I try not to read any reviews before I watch a movie or write a review so I don’t pre-judge but I had to look this one up and I was really surprised to see the 58% audience rating.  I completely get how ‘Slither’ may not be for everyone but 58% is definitely lower then I would have expected.  I thought the characters had great personalities and were well thought out and the cast had great chemistry.  The story is pretty unique and manages to have just the right amount of creepy and comedy, which I loved.  This is definitely not a horror film to be taken too seriously and there are some great laughs throughout it.  Nathan Fillion and Michael Rooker are great, as always, and James Gunn really does a nice job of mixing laugh-out-loud moments with some pretty horrific ones and making it work.  I like keeping my reviews short and sweet and, overall, I really enjoyed ‘Slither’.
